Speech and forensics at Michigan State

Your next round is at MSU.

Spartan Speech is MSU’s speech and forensics community for former high school competitors and anyone who loves public speaking. We practice, perform, judge, coach, and hang out. No tryouts, no experience required.

What members do

Keep speaking after high school.

Weekly meetings

An hour a week to catch up, run drills, try a new event and plan what is next. Show up when you can.

Perform and practice

Bring back your old Prose cutting, write a new Oratory, or do Impromptu for the first time. Members coach each other in every IE.

Judge and coach

Judge MIFA and MSCI tournaments around Michigan, and help coach high school teams. You already know the rules.

Friends, food, road trips

Grand River dinners, watch parties for nationals, and carpools to tournaments. The community is the point.

Former competitors. Future fans. Everyone in between.

Most members did speech in high school, plenty never did. If you like a good speech, you belong here. Our members competed for teams like

  • Walled Lake Western
  • Bloomfield Hills
  • Portage Northern
  • Groves
  • Seaholm
  • Stevenson
  • and plenty more
